Tsotsi Written in 1961 but not published until 1980, this is South African playwright Athol Fugards only novel; the 2005 film based on the book won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Picture. David Madondo calls himself Tsotsi, or hoodlum. His harsh childhood blocked off his feelings, allowing him to commit the most violent of acts without remorse. But when a woman unexpectedly puts a shoebox containing a baby into his arms, David/Tsotsi begins reclaiming his emotions, making it difficult to continue in his life of crime. Amy and Jordan For those of you who thought the comic strip was dead by the end of the twentieth century, here are 292 pieces of proof that you were wrong.
